Jonathan Turner

Jonathan (Jo) Turner is an actor, director, writer, facilitator and communication coach whose work spans performance, education and leadership development. Having worked across NIDA’s Higher Education, NIDA Open and NIDA Corporate programs for more than two decades, Jo brings a uniquely multidisciplinary perspective to communication and human connection. Trained at the renowned École Jacques Lecoq in Paris, he developed a strong foundation in movement, improvisation and physical storytelling, later working throughout Europe creating original work and delivering workshops based on the Lecoq methodology.

A highly experienced theatre-maker, Jo has worked as a performer, director and writer with many of Australia’s leading arts organisations, including Bell Shakespeare, Sydney Theatre Company, Griffin Theatre Company, Belvoir, Ensemble Theatre, Black Swan Theatre Company, La Boite Theatre and the Sydney Opera House, alongside extensive work in film and television. As an independent artist, he is particularly passionate about creating visually imaginative new work, including the acclaimed family production Ruby’s Wish, which toured nationally, and The Girl Who Glows, which received an AWGIE nomination.

As a facilitator with NIDA Corporate, Jo has worked with leaders and teams across the financial services, government, education, professional services and corporate sectors. Drawing on his expertise in improvisation, movement, storytelling and coaching, he creates engaging, practical learning experiences that build confidence, adaptability and authentic connection. His facilitation style encourages participants to step outside their comfort zones, experiment with new approaches and communicate with greater clarity and impact.

Alongside his corporate work, Jo has taught extensively at NIDA, The Actors Centre, UWS and other leading training institutions, specialising in movement, improvisation and performance. His continuing interest in coaching psychology and human behaviour complements his creative practice and informs his work with leaders and teams. Whether working with actors, executives or emerging professionals, Jo combines creativity, insight and warmth to help people tell their stories more effectively and connect more meaningfully with others.
