TAL Insurance: Embedding Human Skills and Authentic Connections

TAL Insurance: Embedding Human Skills and Authentic Connections

About the Organisation

Industry: Insurance
Organisation Size: 1,000-5,000 employees

TAL Insurance is one of Australia’s largest life insurers, helping millions of Australians protect their financial futures through life insurance, income protection and retirement solutions.

The Challenge

Technology can generate content, but it can’t replace the qualities that make people want to listen. NIDA Corporate Training’s approach is informed by Aristotle’s enduring framework of persuasion: trust, logic and human connection. More than 2,000 years later, those principles remain the foundation of effective communication, making voice, physical presence and authentic connection a genuine competitive advantage in the age of AI.

The NIDA Corporate Training Solution

TAL Life Insurance recognised this opportunity early. What began as three Presenting with Confidence programs with NIDA Corporate Training expanded to five cohorts as demand grew across the business. Participants developed practical techniques to manage nerves, strengthen vocal and physical presence, create engaging presentation openings, and build genuine audience connection. When audiences connect with the presenter, they’re far more likely to connect with the message.

A participant described the program, stating:

“I’ve learned practical techniques to calm my nerves, warm up my voice, and become more aware of my visual cues and presence when presenting. This course has helped me better understand how to genuinely connect with an audience and feel comfortable doing so.”

But capability isn’t built in a single day. Like any performance skill, it develops through sustained practice.

That’s why, following overwhelmingly positive feedback, NIDA recommended a dedicated 90-minute embedding session, bringing every participant back together to celebrate progress, reinforce the learning and strengthen a shared communication capability across the business. This offered participants the space to reflect, utilise their shared language, gain peer feedback, and promote continued practice and accountability.

Our Impact

Another participant highlighted the value of continued feedback and practice:

While the direct feedback on our own presentations from the group was confronting it was the best part where the most learning/growing happened.”

That reflection reinforces a simple truth: confidence grows through practice, feedback, and repetition. Many organisations invest in communication training, but few seek to embed the learning.

TAL recognised that confidence is built, not bestowed.

The real impact comes not from learning a skill, but from continuing to practice it. In a world where technology can generate content in seconds, the organisations that invest in communication capability will continue to create the one thing AI cannot: authentic human connection.
