Directors Studio: Live Performance - Interview
For adults 18 years + (Intermediate)
Acquire the skills required to lead a creative team, motivate a company of performers and inspire audiences.
Overview
Consider the director’s role and responsibilities, explore the principles of effective storytelling and develop the confidence to realise your vision. Investigate techniques to assist actors to create dynamic performances. Understand how best to utilise staging to create meaningful action.
Course components
Term one
Gain knowledge of the actor’s process, and explore ways to realise text and/or concepts in performance. Engage in the critical analysis of other directors and develop an understanding of the language of live performance in a variety of contexts. Collaborate with guest actors to build your working methodology.
Term two
Develop technical awareness and skill in staging, design, lighting and sound. Plan and deliver a directing concept through collaborative workshops and present your work for review and feedback.

- Knowledge and application of a structured rehearsal process
- Script analysis when working with actors
- Staging of a short piece for performance
- Practice of different rehearsal techniques

Fees
The course fee for 2016 is $2300 payable in 2 installments.
A separate, non-refundable interview fee of $25 will be charged.
Interview information
Entry to the Directors Studio courses is selective, by interview only.
Interviews for 2020 mid-year intake in July will occur online via a group Zoom session. Once enrolled in the interview you will be sent information about how to prepare.
Prior to the interview you will receive the link to join the class on the day. This is a group interview session, you will have an opportunity on the day to collaborate with others.

Please note the course itself will still be delivered face to face in our Sydney studios.
