Holiday course

Explore differing aspects of on-screen performance. Gain an understanding of acting for camera techniques, television voice-overs, presenting to camera, directing for screen and screen writing. Share your ideas, collaborate and identify your strengths in this fast-paced extravaganza of all things screen.

Course components

Screen Acting Techniques

  • Practice hitting marks.
  • Establish a relationship with the camera through use of eye line techniques.
  • Use screen specific terminology with ease.

Directing for the Screen

  • Discover how to develop a concept or idea.
  • Learn how to work effectively with a creative team.
  • Mark up a script ready for the rehearsal process.

TV Presenting

  • Develop self-awareness to avoid repetitious or distracting movements and vocal tics whilst on camera.
  • Gain confidence in interviewing through simple techniques.
  • Work with a partner to communicate scripted information to the camera.

Voice Overs

  • Learn effective warm up strategies for your voice.
  • Sharpen your articulation and learn to enunciate precisely.
  • Master your own voice over style and experiment with a range of character voices.

Writing for the Screen

  • Develop ideas for screen writing.
  • Create plots, characters, dialogue and tension.
  • Gain an understanding of drafting and feedback processes.

Outcomes

  • An ability to rehearse and present scenes authentically.
  • An understanding of the director’s process.
  • An articulate and professional presentation to camera.
  • Vocal elasticity in the delivery of voice overs.
  • An awareness of the components of screen and playwriting.

  • Please ensure that you have given a valid email and mobile number as any course changes will be communicated via email or sms.
  • Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in for all drama and performance related courses. Clothing that restricts movement is inappropriate.
  • Please wear closed-in shoes. Shoes may be removed in the rehearsal room on the direction of the class tutor.
  • Participants must provide their own lunch, including snacks and drinks.
  • Students in courses for Grades 11–12 will not be supervised during breaks and are free to leave the venue at designated break times should they wish.
