Novo Nordisk: Audience‑Ready Communication for Medical Professionals

Novo Nordisk: Audience‑Ready Communication for Medical Professionals

A leading global healthcare and pharmaceutical company, Novo Nordisk has been a valued NIDA Corporate Training client since 2023, with training expanding from short workshops to full one‑day programs.

This success story is based on a recent delivery of communication training for their Medical Advisor and In‑Field Medical teams, whose roles involve delivering critical data and insights from the field.

About the organisation

Novo Nordisk is a global healthcare and pharmaceutical company. In the Australian market, the company focuses on discovering, developing, registering, and supplying innovative medicines for serious chronic conditions—particularly diabetes care, obesity and weight management, rare blood disorders, and growth and endocrine disorders.

They also conduct clinical trials across multiple therapy areas, with an emphasis on metabolic diseases, and partner with local health authorities to improve access to care and affordability for patients.

The challenge

Novo Nordisk presented two challenges facing two of their teams.

In‑Field Medical team
Highly knowledgeable subject matter experts who present large volumes of data to stakeholders. Their challenge involved stepping forward physically to convey their message confidently, rather than relying heavily on slides or remaining behind their iPads.

Medical Advisor team
This group had previously completed presentation training. They wanted to continue advancing their communication capability, particularly in navigating challenging conversations and deepening their understanding of leadership presence.

The NIDA Corporate Training solution

Each cohort received a custom program tailored to its needs.

In‑Field Medical team
We delivered the half‑day Engaging Presentations program, where participants explored vocal and physical skills, setting communication objectives, and storytelling. The cohort then split into small groups to receive individual coaching and feedback.

This program has since been adopted by other organisations as an effective presentation training solution.

Medical Advisor team
The one‑day Convince and Communicate program focused on core communication skills such as active watching, active listening, and understanding status dynamics. Given their prior presentation training, participants also prepared and delivered presentations, receiving targeted feedback to build on the skills acquired in the previous year.

The outcome

The outcomes for each cohort related strongly to their bespoke programs.

The Medical Advisors self-reported outcomes including:

  • Enhanced understanding of how to build personal presence
  • A deeper knowledge of the role of status in high stakes presentations
  • A greater ability to use active listening when being challenged
  • A stronger understanding of personal habits under pressure

The In-Field Medical team self-reported the following outcomes from their presentation training:

  • Increased awareness of physical and vocal strategies to build personal presence
  • Greater management of nerves and their impact on performance
  • Stronger understanding of techniques for structuring an impactful presentation

Participants shared enthusiastic feedback about the experience and the coaching they received:

“Eleanor was a sensational wellspring of knowledge and spectacular vessel of communication, providing invaluable insight into effective storytelling.”

“The course was spot on. The tips and learning so practical and valuable. We will be back!”

“Natasha and Duncan were phenomenal. They made the day so much fun and so practical the time flew by. I learned so much that I will be able to implement.”

Continued training is a powerful development opportunity for high-performing teams. Our team training is highly customisable to unique organisational challenges, capabilities, and contexts. Leaders and subject matter experts are enabled to communicate with confidence, and influence key business outcomes.
