Success Story: Association of Australian Gallery Guiding Organisations

The Association of Australian Gallery Guiding Organisation (AAGGO) is a national network of volunteer art gallery guides. The AAGGO invited NIDA Corporate Training to be a part of their biennial conference at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney, hosting gallery guides from across the country and focusing on communication as the centre of the visitor experience.

About the organisation

The Association of Australian Gallery Guiding Organisations (AAGGO) is a not-for-profit network connecting volunteer art gallery guides across the country. The Association’s core aim is to support gallery guides and encourage the development of new skills to enhance their role as vibrant and effective gallery guides.

The challenge

Art galleries often oversee a dedicated team of volunteer gallery guides. These guides provide an important part of the visitor experience through one-to-one or small group tours, sharing their wealth of art knowledge.

The inherent challenge for art galleries nation-wide is maintaining a consistent high-quality experience that meets the communication needs of every visitor.

The NIDA Corporate Training solution

NIDA Corporate Training presented a 2-hour workshop as part of the AAGGO’s biennial conference.

Our customised interactive workshop demonstrated the importance of clear communication and how to achieve it. Practical exercises encouraged participants to get up from their seats, showing how breath and body language can impact how they communicate in face-to-face interactions and presentations.

Our impact

Led by NIDA Corporate Training tutors Sean and Natasha, the workshop presentation was delivered to over 200 volunteer gallery guides from around Australia.

Participants responded positively to workshop, with most their useful take-aways including strategies on how to manage anxiety in face-to-face communication and presentations, matching energy levels and communication styles.

These key communication skills can be implemented and practiced immediately, anticipating improved clarity and engagements with visitors undertaking guided tours, as well as intra-team communication.

NIDA Corporate Training tutors are passionate about sharing tools for effective communication across a broad spectrum of professional contexts. Contact us to talk through your organisation’s communication challenges and learn about how we can help.
