Nithya Nagarajan is a Melbourne-based arts professional with experience in performance, program production, arts management and business development. She is committed to enhancing the power of the creative arts as a catalyst for change in the community and corporate spheres, and she brings a melting pot of experiences to the Community and Participation Role at NIDA Melbourne.

Nithya has over two decades of experience as a performing artist including extensive training in the neo-classical Indian dance form of Bharatanatyam. She completed a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Madras and a Master of Arts in Culture, Creativity and Entrepreneurship from the University of Leeds. She has recently been awarded a PhD in Humanities from Flinders University wherein her thesis examined the politics of gender in Indian contemporary dance choreography.

Prior to joining NIDA, Nithya worked as a sessional lecturer at Monash University teaching Asian Theatre, Feminist Performance and Performance Art. In recent times, she played a pivotal role at a global startup, Zomato, as the lead of the Customer Relationship Management and Content Strategy team. Nithya has also served as a long-term volunteer for TEDx Melbourne and TEDx Docklands where she has coordinated and coached some of Australia’s most influential speakers. As a dancer, educator and performance-maker, Nithya has a comprehensive understanding of the power of the arts to bring about culture shifts to the corporate sector and community spaces by doing, feeling, learning and applying experiential training methods.
